Musical History of African American History
Final task: reflect on diversity and inclusion with songs
Diversity refers to who is represented (age, gender, ethnic, ability, neurodiversity): it is the condition of having or being composed of differing elements, and especially the inclusion of different types of people in a group or organization.
Equity refers to fair treatment for all people --> While equality assumes that all people should be treated the same, equity takes into consideration a person’s unique circumstances, adjusting treatment accordingly so that the end result is equal.
Inclusion refers to how people experience society or the workforce, and the degree to which organizations embrace people or all employees and enable them to make meaningful contributions.
In a group of two or three students, you will choose
one song among those we have seen in class,
one on the 'suggestions' list, and
one to three songs of your choice, to tell a story of diversity and inclusion by threading the different messages expressed by these songs in their lyrics, genre, musicality and/or context.
You will present your work to the class with three minutes max of listening and at least three minutes each of oral presentation. You can prepare slides with pictures and illustrations, but without any other text than keywords.
You will present without any notes and will be evaluated by this rubric:
