The opportunity to bear testimony of truth is one of the most powerful tools you have as a teacher. Bearing a testimony of truth can directly lead to the Holy Ghost confirming that truth. So as teachers, it is critical that we share our testimony of what we have taught. But we also must realize the power of inviting our students to testify as well. This could be done spur of the moment or as an assignment made in advance. A second witness to the truthfulness of what you have taught, given by a student, can be the means for others to gain their own testimony. In some cases, a student may not feel they even have a testimony of that principle, only to find when they open their mouths, the Spirit provides that confirmation.
James E. Talmage taught, “Knowledge is to wisdom what belief is to faith – one an abstract principle, the other a living application. Not possession merely, but the proper use of knowledge constitutes wisdom.” A Master Teacher goes beyond just conveying information, but helps the student to act upon that knowledge, resulting in change and growth. Inviting a student to testify can be that chance to use their knowledge, helping themselves and the listeners to gain a testimony and gain wisdom.
