Kayaks to Keepers

June 13 - June 17

July 5 - July 8

An unforgettable experience, this camp is all about new adventures! Each camper can get hands on by helping our keepers feed and clean up after our critters. This camp shows campers a new perspective on nature and what it takes to care for animals on a wildlife refuge.

During camp, we will:

Day 1:

  • Have a "snowball" fight in class.

  • Go crabbing on the National Wildlife Refuge Beach.

  • Conduct an experiment focused on propulsion.

Day 2:

  • Play water sports on San Diego Bay.

  • Meet an amazing ocean animal ambassador.

  • Collect plankton using a Plankton Tow and observe them under a microscope.

Day 3:

  • Meet a green sea turtle.

  • Learn about sharks and rays.

  • Conduct a shark stomach experiment.

Day 4:

  • Play water sports on San Diego Bay.

  • Make slime to take home.

  • Touch tide pool animals.

Day 5:

  • Perform animal keeper duties for both avian and aquariums.

  • Conduct a balance experiment.

  • Meet a raptor.

All camp schedules and activities are subject to change based off organizational and animal needs.
