THE SWALES FAMILY

No recorded recusancy exists respecting this family which appears to have entered the Egton district two hundred years ago. Whether they were papists then is not known but they were certainly papists towards the end of the century. The family, however, were quite strong at Lythe and Sandsend from before 1700.

MARRIAGES

Jane White, marriage 3 was the daughter of George the tailor. She was born in 1770, who the other one was is not known.

This family lived latterly at Lealholme.
