William R. Hancock's Service Record

William Richardson Hancock was born in 1838 in either Hall or Jackson Counties. In the 1850 census he is listed as a 15 year old laborer on his father's land in Jackson County. By the 1860 census he is married to Lucy Davis and owns $400 of real estate. He apparently did not enlist but was conscripted in 1864 into the 30th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry which was later consolidated into the 11th Georgia Cavalry. The extent of action seen by the regiment is unknown but the were apparently engaged in the cavalry actions around Lovejoy Station during the Atlanta Campaign. The regiment was armed with Cook & Brother Carbines from Athens, Georgia upon their organization.

This is the first company Muster Roll with Hancock.

This record shows Hancock too the Oath of Allegiance on August 22, 1865.
