Isaac Marion Sellers' Service Records

Isaac Marion Sellers was born in 1841 in Haywood County, North Carolina. Sometime before the 1850 census his family moved to Gilmer County, Georgia. By the 1860 census, Isaac is 18 years old and married to Harriet Jones who was 16. In 1862 he enlisted with Smith's Legion, a regiment out of mostly Gilmer and Floyd Counties.

In Seller's first Muster Roll it shows him enlisting in Elijay with Smith's Legion.

By 1863 the regiment has been renamed Fain's Regiment. Sellers is in a hospital in Atlanta.

May-June muster roll.

In this time period the regiment saw action at the Battle of Chickamauga.

By the end of 1863 the regiment was once again renamed this time the 65th Georgia Infantry.

At this period the regiment was in winter quarters around Dalton, Ga. in Jackson's Brigade, Walker's corps.

This final record shows Sellers deserted just before the start of the Atlanta Campaign.

Following the war Sellers returned to farming in Gilmer County. He lived in the Mountaintown area and attended Zion Hill Baptist Church. He died in 1887 from falling while putting a new roof on the church. He is buried there in the church cemetery.
