SOUTH MOUNTAIN AND ANTIETAM VETERANS
Here is the list of Civil War veterans within both sides of my family that were present at the Battle of South Mountain from September 14, 1862 and the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862. The list is put together by regiment. This list is taken from my master list which can be seen HERE.
William Tatum Wofford – Maternal Cousin – Brigadier General
General Wofford began the war as a Captain in the 18th Georgia but was promoted to Colonel soon thereafter. Upon the death of General TRR Cobb at Fredericksburg, Wofford was promoted to Brigadier General and commanded “Wofford's Georgia Brigade” throughout the war.
