William Reid, surgeon, Calton, Glasgow was registered a Licentiate of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow on 4 April 1831, 13 days earlier his future wife to be had completed sewing a cross-stitch sampler at Mrs Barr's school on 22 March 1831.
National Library of Scotland holds PO directories for Glasgow 1830-31 showing Barrowfield Medical Hall at 92 Canning Street
The PO directories for Glasgow 1834-35 show William Reid at 92 Canning Street, House 39 Orr Street.
Whilst this alone is not 100% proof, there is evidence to suggest that William may have worked from Barrowfield Medical Halls which was located at 92 Canning Street.
By 1835 we find William working as a vaccinator to the Glasgow Cow Pock Institute and by 1840 was secretary to the same institute.
Again from the PO directories we learn that the Glasgow Cow Pock Institute was located at 56 London Street and 36 St Andrew Street. and was open from 12 to 1 on Fridays and by 1838 the Glasgow Cow Pock Institution Hall is shown at 29 Hutcheson Street.
In later years (after 1859) William worked as a surgeon to the Buchanan institute.
