Henry Reid was a grocer and spirit dealer by trade who lived and worked in Barrowfield Road (later Canning Street, still later London Road) Calton, Glasgow. In July 1793 he married Margaret Thomson. Henry died in 1833 and is buried alongside his wife in the old Calton Cemetery, Abercromby Street.
