Green Tara

Arya Tara as tantric meditation deity, is considered the embodiment of the three jewels. In her green manifestation she is most dynamic, symbolizing youthfulness and vigor. Depicted in the posture of ease, her right leg is extended, ready to go into action. Being seen as the bodhisattva of compassion and action, she is also considered to be the female aspect of the Bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokitesvara. Thus devoting ones practice to her is used to develop certain qualities and understanding of compassion and wisdom. In this way Arya Tara is also known as saviouress, as a heavenly deity who hears the cries of beings and acting swiftly in response. Her appearance in female form is also based on her vow to reach enlightenment and she is therefore celebrated as the 'mother of liberation'.
