EIAF는 서울대학교 사범대학 교육학과 강대중 교수와 대학원 지도학생들의 학문공동체입니다. 우리는 교육적 상상력(educative imagination)과 대안적 미래(alternative futures)를 화두(話頭)로 삶의 전 영역에 두루 퍼져있는 가르침과 배움을 연구합니다. 교육은 한 인간이 어머니의 자궁에서 시작하여 대자연의 품으로 돌아가기까지 삶의 여정에서 빚어내는 배움과 가르침이 그 인간이 몸담은 수 없는 관계의 생성과 발전, 쇠퇴와 소멸에 관여하는 상상력의 실천입니다. 미래는 우리에게 다가와 주어지는 것이 아니라 우리의 과거를 토대로 한 현재의 교육적 상상력으로 실현되는 대안입니다. 이 화두를 학습자자세, 학습관리장치, 맥락지식이라는 개념을 기초로 평생학습이론을 전개하는 것을 장기 목표로 다음 영역을 소재로 연구합니다.

EIAF (Educative Imagination and Alternative Futures) is a research community of Professor Dae Joong Kang at the Department of Education, College of Education, Seoul National University and his graduate students. We study activities of teaching and learning observed in diverse areas of human lives with two keywords—educative imagination and alternative futures—in mind. Education is practice of imagination that is engaging in the process of emergence, development, declination, and disappearance of relations that we can make out of teaching and learning activities in our life courses from mother’s womb to Mother Nature’s arms. Futures are not given to us with time but alternatives produced by our current educative imagination that is based on our past. We aim to build a theory of lifelong learning with concepts of learner positions, learning management apparatus, contextual knowledge in the following areas of study:

• Life-Course/Life-History and Lifelong Learning of Education Professionals and the Underprivileged
• Non-formal Education Programs, Education/Labor Market, Educational Apparatus, Learning Culture
• Parents who learn, Education fever management, School and local community, Discourse of school-parents
• Alternative schools, Alternative education system and Social recognition/validation/accreditation of learning experience
• Digital Media/Spaces and Adult Informal Learning
• Popular Arts and Active Citizenship in Learning Cities
• Post-modernism/Post-structuralism and Qualitative Research Methods
• Theories and Conceptions of Learning from Lifelong and/or Neuro-scientific Perspectives
