HENRY FYFE ANGUS was born at Pyramid Hill near Kerang, Victoria on the 16th of February 1892. He enlisted in the AIF (army), at Prahran, Victoria on the 17th of August 1914, service number 616. At this time he was a college student.

His enlistment papers describe him as 5' 8" tall, weighing 144 lbs (10 stone 4 lbs) with fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.

He embarked at Melbourne to the H.M.A.T. A3 Orvieto bound for Abbassio in Cairo.He had several hospital admission during 1915 for various conditions including a neck abscess and cellulitis which is a bacterial infection of the skin, the latter admission was on the the 22nd of May 1915 on the Gallipoli Penisula and he was transferred to France for treatment.

Henry was promoted to Corporal on the 18th of August 1915 By the 14th of September 1915, he was in Lemnos, Greece. On the 20th of November 1915, Henry was once again promoted, this time to Sergeant.

In early 1916 he was sent to Alexandria on the HMT Empress of Britain arriving on the 7th of January 1916 and on the in March 1916 was again on the move this time being sent to Marseilles, France on the Briton, arriving on the 30th of March. He was reported missing on the 27th of July 1916 but it was later reported that he had been killed on the 25th of July 1916 at Pozieres in France.

There was a court of inquiry held into his death but I have been unable to ascertain why this was. His military file is not as informative as it could have been. At the time of his death, Henry was posted to the 5th Battalion.

There is also reference made in his file regarding a Victoria Cross. The letter was sent by his father but it does not appear that this medal was awarded.

Henry was 23 years old at the time of his death and was buried at the Villiers- Bretonneaux memorial , France
