A paper by Emma Holmes, Ysabel Domingo, and Ingrid Johnsrude titled, "Familiar voices are more intelligible, even if they are not recognized as familiar" has been accepted in Psychological Science.

This papers demonstrates a dissociation between explicit recognition of a familiar voice and the speech-intelligibility benefit gained from a familiar voice in the presence of a competing talker. The findings imply that different mechanisms may be involved in processing familiar-voice information, depending on the context in which the information is used.
