My secondary placement for student teaching was at Lift for Life Academy. While working at this school I have learned the importance of working together with teachers, administrators, students and parents. Communication is key for a student’s success. It allows collaboration of successful strategies that provides students with the best education. By incorporating cross-curricular lessons into curriculum students will become more successful in all subjects. Every teacher at LFLA is also an educator of reading and writing. This has been an essential element in curriculum writing that I will take with me for future teaching endeavors. Incorporating cross-curricular strategies allows students greater experience in multiple areas of learning. The art classroom is a wonderful place to incorporate other subject areas. Students can learn History, Life Sciences, Reading, Writing, Mathematical Perspectives and so much more! I learned the daily roles and responsibilities of middle school and high school teacher. I created and implemented a curriculum for a high school Drawing and Painting class that focused on the three main category’s of art; Representational, Abstract and Non-Objective. Students explored watercolor materials, pencil drawing, printmaking and mixed media. While teaching at LFLA I also had the opportunity to teach the lessons written by my cooperating teacher to grades 6th through 12th. I learned how to plan and teach a range of curriculums that guided students to think creatively, critically and problem solve. During my time at LFLA I learned the importance of communication and was able to build relationships with students, teachers, parents/guardians and administration.
