My current position with North Side Community School in North St. Louis has been a wonderful experience. Their dedication for education and helping those in need is truly inspirational. I have loved getting to know the faculty and students at this school and have been inspired from these devoted educators. The opportunity to share my knowledge of the arts with the students at North Side, who are eager to learn, has been unforgettable. This is an excellent school with high exceptions and outstanding procedures, which creates an effective and caring teaching and learning environment. I have learned how loving and productive a school atmosphere can be when everyone supports one another and works towards common goals.
Beginning in the Fall of 2015 I started my Art Education career at Sigel Elementary in the Saint Louis Public Schools. While working at Sigel Elementary I have created an art curriculum for ages PK - 6th grade. I enjoy the variety of lessons and ages that I am able to work with. My goal is to always make an exciting and relevant curriculum for the Sigel Art Students. We explore the elements and principles in art and design, master artists and periods, craftsmanship, effort, creativity, a variety of mediums and so much more! I want my students to be proud and confident in their artworks and in everything that they do! It is important to know my students and their personal interests to incorporate into my curriculum to create engaging and unforgettable art lessons!
For six weeks in Belleville Illinois I was able to create and implement a thematic cross-curricular curriculum for students in grades 3rd through 6th. With a teaching partner I learned the importance of communication and collaboration of information and ideas. The Unit that was written was a study of the students identity within their community. The students explored the places in their community and their individual roles. Students reflected on the importance of working together and the significance of having a unique identity.
During the second part of my Practicum II experience I taught 3rd - 5th grade at Gotsch Intermediate school. I was able to teach a variety of lessons to the different grades at the school while learning and implementing the daily responsibilities and activities of an elementary teacher. I enjoyed my experience at the school and learned a great deal from my cooperating teacher and my time working with the amazing students in the Affton District!
