Still Life Drawing and Watercolor Painting
Students learned to draw from life by observing and drawing the exact shapes and space that they could see. The subject matter that the students were observing included traditional still life objects from history and and some non-traditional but exciting items! The first step was to create a view finder to zoom in on an area of interest. Students learned that objects which were closer to them would be drawn on the bottom of the page. As the objects began to go back in to space the shapes would overlap one another. It was important to understand proportion. All object must be in proportion to one another. Students closely studied the objects, the space in-between and surrounding the still life composition. Once the paper was full with shapes and lines creating the observed subject matter students mixed watercolor hues together to create the exact colors that the could see!
