CHARLOTTE ALVORD
Charlotte Alvord was born on September 25, 1815 at Lockport, Niagra County, New York to Thaddeus Alvord and Sarah, also called Sally, Wellington. Charlotte's mother died the year Charlotte was born. Her father joined with the Mormon Church and moved with the Saints during their trials. Charlotte's father, Thaddeus, wrote an affidavit, published in the History of the Church, about how his family moved from Michigan to Clay County, Missouri and then were forced to flee to Illinois for safety. Charlotte was married to Lyman Curtis during the summer of 1834 in Clay County, Missouri, when she was 19 and he was 22. She is listed in the History of the Church as one of the few women to be called to Zion's Camp. She was living at Winter Quarters when her husband was called to go west with Brigham Young's party as a scout and hunter. After her husband reached the Great Salt Lake, he returned back to Iowa and took his family across the plains to Utah. The settled in Pondtown, Utah, which was later named Salem. Charlotte died in Salt Lake City on September 9, 1879 at the age of 64.
