Uma revisão na história da 5^a edição de A Gênese Parte I - Os eventos relacionados à impressão e à publicação da edição de 1869

Resumo: Última obra de Allan Kardec, A Gênese, os milagres e as predições segundo o Espiritismo foi lançada em 1868 e “revista, corrigida e aumentada” em sua 5^a edição. Desde então, o texto atualizado desta obra foi amplamente difundido tanto no original quanto em traduções em diversas línguas. Na Argentina, após ser disponibilizada em 2010 uma tradução para o espanhol com base no texto atualizado, foi levantada uma suspeita de que esta edição não conteria o texto definitivo escrito por Kardec, o que levou a uma investigação acerca da questão: qual o texto definitivo de A Gênese? A conclusão, apresentada em 2017, defende a seguinte tese: o texto definitivo é o da 1^a edição (da 2^a à 4^a edição, o conteúdo é idêntico ao da 1^a), pois a atualização não foi elaborada pelo autor em vida, se tratando portanto de uma adulteração póstuma, publicada em 1872, com modificações significativas em alguns conteúdos doutrinários. A partir da descoberta de um exemplar da 5^a edição atualizada da obra, datado de 1869, foi empreendida uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, conduzida de forma colaborativa, na qual foram encontradas evidências que corroboram a hipótese mais provável de que Allan Kardec é o autor desta edição, consequentemente apontando-a como sendo o texto definitivo. Este artigo, que é a primeira parte de uma série de estudos sobre os eventos em torno da história da publicação da 5^a edição de A Gênese, apresenta eventos referentes à impressão e à publicação da 5^a edição em 1869, sugerindo que: i) o texto desta edição já tinha sido concluído por Kardec em setembro de 1868; ii) sua impressão foi solicitada em fevereiro do ano seguinte; e iii) o período mais provável para sua publicação foi entre abril e maio, sob os cuidados de Amélie Boudet, sucessora do marido e legalmente responsável por concluí-la.

Abstract: Allan Kardec’s last work, Genesis - Miracles and Predictions According to Spiritism, was initially published in January 1868, and on its 5^th edition, it was “revue, corrigée et augmentée” (revised, corrected and enlarged). Since then, this updated edition of the book was widely promoted both in French and in several other languages to which it was translated into. In Argentina, after a translation of the Genesis to Spanish was made available in 2010, based on this updated version of the text, a suspicion of illegitimacy was raised, basically claiming that this edition would not contain the definitive text written by Kardec. This led to an investigation regarding the question: which edition of the Genesis is the definitive text of Kardec? The conclusion, presented in 2017, sustained the following thesis: the definitive text is the 1^st edition of the book (as from the 2^nd to 4^th editions, whose contents are identical to the 1^st one), because the updated version would not have been written by the author in his lifetime, so concluding that the published 1872 edition of Genesis is a posthumous adulteration of the book, with the addition of having significant modification of doctrinal contents. However, after the discovery of a copy of the 5^th edition of the book with the updated text, dated by 1869, a bibliographic and documentary research have been started by the Authors which resulted in evidences that strongly suggest that the 5^th edition of the Genesis have been produced by Allan Kardec. Consequently, our work proposes that it is the definitive text. This paper, the first part of a series of studies about the history of the 5^th edition of Genesis in 1869, presents the events related to the printing and publication of the 5^th edition of 1869, suggesting that: i) the text of this edition had already been completed by Kardec in September 1868; ii) its printing was requested in February of the following year; and iii) the most likely period for the publication of the 5^th edition of Genesis might be between April and May of 1869, and under the eyes of Amélie Boudet, her husband’s successor and legally responsible for his works’ conclusion.
