In addition to this biography below please check out my What To Expect From My Teaching Studio page to learn what I have to offer as a drum teacher.

My name is Jeremy Brown, and I'm a performer and a teacher on drum set and percussion.  In 2
009 I received a Bachelors of Music with a minor in Spanish from the University of Utah. My degree's emphasis was in Jazz Performance on drum set and vibraphone. I was the first chair drummer in the top Jazz Band at the U for several years.  I have 24 years performing experience and have been teaching for 16 years.  I have also worked at Bingham high and their two feeder Jr. highs South Jordan and Elkridge as their "Percussion Specialist" helping teach and conduct their percussion ensembles and work with their set players in their jazz bands.

My performing interests and abilities are pretty wide ranged. I've played in rock bands, I speak Spanish and love playing Caribbean, Afrocuban, and Brazilian music. I've played the drum set and percussion parts for dozens of musical productions, and I have been performing in jazz combos and big bands for the past 20 years. I've also been playing percussion in classical settings for the past 24 years, with most experience on timpani. I currently gig and perform with several different groups for private parties, corporate gigs, weddings, and doing studio work.

I'm originally from Utah and have studied with some of the best in the state: George Brown, timpanist for the Utah Symphony; Doug Wolf, percussion professor at the U of U (also with the Utah Symphony); Kelly Wallis, owner of Backbeats Drum Shop (one of the first call drummers in the state); and also with Jay Lawrence, (also a first call drummer, and whom I've studied with for over 7 years).

Some of the groups I’ve recorded and toured with are:

  • Steffon.  This is a rock/pop singer songwriter group, with whom I have recorded a couple albums with.  We've shared the stage with Peter Brienholdt, among others, and  this group performs locally for private and corporate gigs. (you can find sound clips for Steffon on his myspace page).
  • The University of Utah's Philharmonic, Wind Ensemble, Drum Line, jazz combos, guitar ensembles, Big Band I, Big Band II, and their Percussion Ensemble.
  • Utah Ambassadors of Music which toured seven countries in Europe in the summer of 2001.
  • With groups such as the Sandy, Draper, Bluffdale, Murray, and WestValley Arts councils I've performed over 24 musicals including Guys and Dolls, Hair Spray, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, and Footloose.
  • With my classic rock band Tom Foolery we also recorded an album called Harlequin in 1999.
  • The University of Utah's International Children's Choir (which toured Italy in the summer of 1994.)
  • Robert Gardner's Spire Music premiering his work for choir, orchestra, and soloists entitled, "Lamb of God."
  • Other groups and clients include:  The Sally Bytheway Choral,  The Murray Concert Band, Deseret Chamber Singers, The Murray Symphony, and The Oquirr Mountain Symphony.

I have had a lot of experience performing with some the finest groups in Utah and under the tutelage of nationally renown musicians and institutions.  What I have to offer in the way of performing and educating reflects that experience.
