Australia-Japan Society (Tasmania) Inc

The Australia-Japan Society (Tasmania) Inc is a nonpolitical, nonprofit organisation that assists Australians (and in particular, Tasmanians) and Japanese in understanding each other's culture.

The Society is involved in the organisation of numerous activities in various educational, cultural, social and commercial contexts. It is an incorporated body with an active committee of ten, elected at the AGM held each May.

There are a number of Japanese connections in Tasmania. There are opportunities to both utilize and participate. Engaging with these organizations and groups should enhance the richness of your teaching program, and help engage students.

Hobart-Yaizu Sister City Committee

Hobart's sister city relationships provide opportunities for the people of Hobart to make professional, educational, cultural and personal links with people from around the world.Community Committees that support the sister city relationships have been established to develop projects that link our sister cities with Hobart and assist Council in the coordination of sister city related activities.If you wish to discuss the sister city relationship or you are interested in being involved in the Yaizu Committee please contact Hobart City Council's Community Development Officer on (03) 6238 2151.

Taiko Doramu

The Tasmania University Union Taiko Society was formed in 2002 to create the opportunity to train, perform and teach the Japanese Art of the Drum. The TUUTS is affiliated with the Tasmania University Union, and is reliant on their financial and administrative support to provide this opportunity to University students, school students, and the general public. The Society has a junior arm "Taiko Chan". It also performs at local events and conducts school visits for a reasonable fee.

A Kitsuke club for anyone who wants to learn about kimono and Japanese traditional clothing - including history, pattern meaning and names, and how to wear it. 'Kitsune' meets once a month at the University of Tasmania, Sandy Bay campus.
