Term 2 2016
Japan Foundation Sydney (Cathy Jonak and Mayumi Mitsuya) - Exploring the Australian Curriculum Part 2
Saturday May 28 - 1 day session
Participants had the opportunity to continue to develop their understanding of the Australian Curriculum (Japanese).
Teachers looked at a pre-existing unit of work on the topic 'Robots' and worked with presenters to explore how these tasks can be organised to create an Australian Curriculum unit using the AFMLTA Unit Planner Template.
Then collaboratively constructed a new unit of work based on the topic of Kyuushoku. Using the stimulus material provided by The Japan Foundation Sydney, a copy of the AFMLTA Unit Planner Template and our own experience and expertise we worked collaboratively to create our own Australian Curriculum unit.

Term 4 2015 - JATNET Professional Sharing
Alison Lowe kindly shared resources, teaching ideas and professional learning from the Japan Foundation's Intensive Seminar (October). The session had a primary focus but many ideas could be used in the high school. Alison then demonstrated some innovative ways to fold Furoshiki . Very practical and great for presents.
Please note Alison is happy to share her materials with JATNET members. Just send Melissa a USB stick for a copy.

Past Professional Learning Opportunities
Demonstration of Japanese Weaponry by Les Elliott
A group of interested Japanese teachers were treated to a fabulous demonstration session with Les Elliott.
Les shared his collection of Japanese weapons and talked about their history and development.
Les Elliott is able to hold similar sessions with students (please check the notes below for contact details and further information).
Thanks to Debbie Cameron for sharing her photos with us.
Samurai Sharing - Facilitated by Biz Clemes
Many thanks to Biz Clemes who facilitated this session on Samurai. Biz provided us with many ideas collected from a range of sources. Biz was able to incorporate this work into her Year 9 unit on housing and her students were obviously inspired by the program (as were we). Other possible links were discussed - Year 8 and Year 6.
Please find attached Biz's notes and a sample of work from Helen Mueller on the Last Samurai.
