Basically, capitalism is the law of the jungle where the biggest ape has the first choice of everything. Laws only prevent excesses. Luckily, the instinct to win and prevail is is not the only driving force. We also want to give. We want to support others and ourselves. We are altruists and egotists. A productive and just society requires a balance between these two tendencies.
Some digital products (Wikipedia, open software) are distributed according to Proudhon’s maxim “For all according to need, by all according to ability”. But for most digital services (Facebook, Google, Amazon) the maxim is “ For all, by a few, to the benefit of a few".
Sure, the banks had to be bailed out in 2008. But socialism for the wealthy did not go far enough. Banks should have been nationalized. Money managers should be government employees and earn a teacher salary. Capitalism for those who produce something. Socialism for those who maintain the infrastructure ( education, health, finance, roads, internet) that makes capitalism possible.
