RHODE ISLAND LICENSE RECERTIFICATION
- Link to Rhode Island EMS Education site: https://riems01.wixsite.com/riemseducation
- RI follows the "Recertification by NCCP" model. The model uses three "Components"/"buckets" of training (National, State/Local, and Individual)
- NOTE: There is a document (recertificationClasses.doc) attached to this web page (at the bottom) which describes what training is in what bucket for each level
- To recertify, depending on your level, you need a specific number of HOURS from each training component/bucket.
As a reminder, all paramedics and EMTs licensed after January 1, 2014 must maintain NREMT certification as a condition of RI licensure
The state/local and individual categories each comprise 25% of the hours. In conjunction with the Ambulance Service Advisory Board, the state/local topics have been chosen and can be viewed in the Rhode Island StateBridge. Please navigate to the Modules tab and then select Training. Once in the Training modules, open the drop down menu in Categories and select RI Continued Competency. CEMS has created templates for all the national and state/local categories. Also, several individual templates were created, but more can be added at the service level to fit your needs. All training hours shall be tracked using the RI EMS Information System in the aforementioned Training module. Additionally, all certificates of course completion shall be posted in the documents tab of the individual practitioner.

Please visit the NREMT National Continued Competency Program web page for further information. The Training Officer Guide is very helpful in describing how continuing education can be delivered at the EMS agency level and continuing education credits can be achieved.
