The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies oversees School-wide aspects of the undergraduate engineering program. The Associate Dean has specific responsibilities around curricular oversight of undergraduate programs, student/faculty-related activities, and has School representative duties. Some specific examples are listed below:
Manage the Undergraduate Programs budget, ~150k annually
Manage petitions to transfer to and from the School of Engineering, sign student petitions for waivers & substitutions, changes of grade and other program-related approval forms
Attend university committee meetings including the Undergraduate Studies Council, New Student Planning Group, SCDI, and the Teaching and Learning Group
Represent Engineering as liaison between multiple programs and offices, including financial aid, Honors, LEAD, etc.
Meet regularly with faculty, staff, and students affiliated with Undergraduate Programs

Organize and work as part of the Senior Design Conference planning group
Senior Design project funding and assessment of budgets
Work with classrooms and other space reservations
Order food and facilities for the event
Manage Registered Student Organization's funding proposals and budget spending, attend bi-quarterly Engineering Leadership Council (lead RSO students) meetings to convey relevant information
Communicate Dean’s office decisions and communications to SoE and department chairs including calls for senior award nominations, news relating to incoming students, etc.
Developed a new Google Form to collect and distribute these award nominations to the faculty overseeing the awards
Address faculty and student complaints and requests; relay to appropriate resources or support
Attend meetings as the SoE representative related to undergraduate programs such as those for Mentor Collective, ServiceNow, community college transfer initiatives, and the like

General Engineering is a degree program designed for those interested in a career involving engineering knowledge but with more flexibility than a specific engineering discipline. Rather, this modern, project-based, engineering curriculum spans many areas of engineering to create adaptable engineers with practical skills. Students will acquire the ability to work as members of a team towards successful attainment of a common goal, as well as develop their oral and written communication skills. The program culminates in a year-long multidisciplinary senior design course sequence consisting of a project based largely on student interest and faculty input.
YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS PROGRAM IF…
You have an interest in various different engineering disciplines and would like to diversify your skill set as much as possible
You are passionate about the engineering design and innovation
You want to concentrate your studies on a non-typical discipline in engineering (humanitarian engineering, entrepreneurship and engineering, etc.)
You wish to further your engineering knowledge as it relates to engineering’s impact on society and your specific learning pursuits.
If so, consider selecting this new Minor created especially for engineers and implemented in a way that allows every engineer to fit its requirements into their four year program. This Minor includes requirements in the areas
Product Innovation and Prototyping
Business and Commercialization
Design Thinking and Entrepreneurial Fundamentals
Students are also required to complete an experiential project putting these concepts into practice as well as participation in two elective activities. Multiple OPTIONS are available for each of these requirements, affording students a great deal of flexibility in completing the Minor. Currently, the Minor offers an optional BioInnovation and Design track to provide students with an opportunity to focus their study of innovation and design/entrepreneurial thinking to medical and healthcare applications.
