Where's my Herring?
We have nine stationary receivers located throughout the Ipswich River to monitor fish as the move within the system (see map below). We are also manually tracking the fish daily from a kayak. The information here is based on preliminary data from the receivers, and will be updated as often as possible.
The River Herring:
Sites are numbered from downstream to upstream. There are four release groups for the tagged river herring to help us better understand the behavior of the fish and how transport, stocking, and location may be affecting behavior. See the Research Links page for more information about the release groups. Many fish were manually tracked in Bunker Meadows and in the area downstream of Site 1 (near the Ipswich town wharf). Some fish went so far upstream that they were out of our array, and even with extensive manual tracking above Site 9, we were unable to re-locate these tagged fish.
