The Schiehallion Group- Madrid is delighted to be hosting the 31st Iberian Gathering of Scottish Country Dancing in Ávila, a city located not far from Madrid (approximately 100 km north-west of Madrid).
Ávila and Madrid are well-connected, and trains from Madrid can be accessed from both the Atocha and Chamartín railway stations. Buses are available from the Méndez Alvaro bus station and the Moncloa bus station.
Ávila's medieval centre is very well-preserved and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1985.
The event will be held at the 4* Hotel Palacio de los Velada in Ávila from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th March 2027. The hotel offers excellent accommodation, good services and equipment. It is a 15th-century renovated and extended palace set in the very heart of Ávila's historic centre. The room for dancing is large (c . 450m2) but please note the floor is a tiled floor and the room has some pillars (picture).
The price for the entire weekend (2 nights' accommodation, 2 breakfasts, 2 set dinners (drinks included), 2 balls and 2 classes with live music, and 2 walkthroughs, has been confirmed as 260 euros per person in a shared room and 350 euros in a single room. As usual, people who successfully pre-registered are asked to pay a deposit of 100 euros per person (regardless of type of room) to arrive by 20th October 2026 at the latest. (Do not worry if you haven't been notified yet, you will get a notification very soon!). Those who booked via Iberian groups rather than directly with Schiehallion may have slightly earlier deadlines, to ensure that group transfers arrive on time.
EXTRA NIGHTS: The hotel has requested that extra nights be booked by the Schiehallion group (so not via the hotel). If you registered via one of the Iberian groups, it means telling that group's leader what you want and that information will be passed on to the Schiehallion group. The prices for extra nights are charged per room and they are 90€ for a single room per night (VAT included) and 100 euros per night for a double room (VAT included). This price includes breakfast.
We have been extremely fortunate to have secured the services of musicians Tomás Gonçalves (fiddle) and Benoît Gibson (piano).
The masterclasses will now be provided by the highly talented Rachel Shankland (Edinburgh), as Raphaëlle Orgeret is no longer able to come.
