Global Risks and Security Challenges

10 March 2024, 03:45 - 15:50 UTC (GMT) Universal Time,

at Nagasaki University, Rosario National University, and Online

Concept

Join us for an in-depth one-day online conference delving into intricate connections between global risks and contemporary security challenges. The conference will explore a wide spectrum of issues including, but not limited to, violent conflicts, terrorism, nuclear threats, climate change, geopolitics, and insights from the Global South. Resurgence of populist and authoritarian forms of political decision making, coronavirus crisis, floods in Bangladesh and Pakistan, wildfires in Chile and Australia, droughts in Somalia and Ethiopia, worldwide interlinked networks of terrorism and violence, and many other challenges, such as those emanating from the war in Ukraine and Gaza, all have underlined the effects such risks, disasters and conflicts have on the global community. Scientific research has increasingly come upon agreement that these many risk factors are often compounded and interconnected, and that such linkages aggravate their consequences. The aim of this conference, thus, is to identify some of the linkages between global risks and contemporary security challenges, and investigate their institutional and political contexts.
