Kids love taking pictures and having their picture taken. Digital camers have
become a familiar and comfortable tool to use in the classroom. Cameras are reasonably priced and easy to operate (for kids and teachers), and they can be
used in any classroom. I've listed just a few activities using a digital camera,
and you may also want to view the resources section on this page for even more
ideas.
Ideas for the classroom:
Take pictures of important people in your school for a "Welcome to our school" PowerPoint
Let the kids take pictures of each other for a class album or memory book
Take pictures of steps in a process, you can either paste the images on index cards and laminate for young students to practice sequencing, or let older students use to learn about writing directions for steps in a process
Take a picture of each student, you can use this image to create name tags (great for substitute teachers), labels, center or station rotation cards, job assignment cards, or anything else where you use individual student's names
Use the camera to document a group's work with manipulatives for math
Have the students take pictures to create a visual glossary - the images can be uploaded to a wiki or a blog for an extension activity
