History

After World War 2 had completed, it's effects on the sport of ice hockey in Australia were felt as many lives were lost to war time activity. Some of the games greatest talent were lost and the sport was largely abandoned. Practice sessions at the St. Moritz Ice Palais in 1945 attempted to re-invigorate the sport to a point where by the following year in 1946, a four team competition would be formed comprising 4 teams: Northern Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs, Western Suburbs, Southern Suburbs. The Melbourne Glaciarium did not operate an ice floor this year.[1]

The Eastern Suburbs would become the Demons the following year in 1947 as part of a large rebranding when the Melbourne Glaciarium resumed ice hockey.
