The racing was very close on Sunday with a dead heat between Ivy and Conspiracy in one race and an overall tie on points between those two boats.
A first, a first equal and a 3rd to Ivy (Blair McPheat and Aaron Eastmuir); a first equal and 2 seconds to Conspiracy(Jacqui Herbert and Tom Logan).
Blair and Aaron won on a countback. Don Windle and Bradley Laurie came 3rd with 1 win.
IA 68 (Ivy) won both races in the Idle Along class at the Anniversary Day Regatta at the NBYC, Birkenhead Wharf.
The southerly winds were fresh - ideal for IAs. Hope to see a better turnout next time!
The renovations at the NBYC are due to be finished late February.
28-29 April. Hobsonville - Alf Harvey Regatta
This is gearing up to be a great event - at present we hope to have up to 15 boats - including Idiosyncracy - last year's Moffat Cup winner as well as Mystery from Wellington, Psyche 2 from Manawatu, Psyche 3 from Auckland and the historical Retaliation from Wellington. See https://sites.google.com/site/idlealongsnz/vintage-ias-and-related-boats for details of Mystery and Retaliation.
Want to join us for the event? Boats will launch from Hobsonville and the races will take place off the north side of Herald Island (see the location map attached below). There are six races in total - three on each day - with the warning signal for the first race on each day at 11.25 am. If you want to see the boats before they launch, we suggest you come to the Hobsonville Club by 10am or head back to Hobsonville to join in post-race festivities.
Trophies: The winning boat shall be awared the Alf Harvey Memorial Trophy. Other trophies include the QP Trophy and the Ken Northin Trophy. Note: After two very successful years where the winner was presented with the Moffat Cup, the Cup will remain in Wellington this year. After last year's event, we wrote to Yachting NZ asking for a slightly simpler formula to qualify as a national heritage class and have not had a reply at this stage.
Want to enter? If you plan to sail in this event and have not already received your Notice of Race, Entry Form and Sailing Instructions from Gary Matthews or Tom Logan, please email us at IdleAlongNZ@gmail.com or phone Gary on 09-838-7059.
If you don't have a boat, it may not be too late - there are several good boats on the market - see Boats for sale and wanted.
Scanned copies of the Notice of Race, Entry Form and Sailing Instructions are attached below.
