Updates and News
I am currently in the process of developing some new journal software with Hilary Barrett from Online Clarity. This new software is going to work slightly differently to the existing I Ching Readings Journal. In addition to being able to record Yijing Readings there is also going to be the facility to record dreams, synchronicities, general journal entries and notes. There is also going to be the facility to organise entries by tags and an updated search form plus lots more.
For people who already own the existing I Ching Readings Journal, I intend to create a facility for exporting existing entries to the new software once it is ready (hopefully this will be early 2014).
For people who don't already own the existing software, I have reduced the price of the I Ching Readings Journal (Level Three Upgrade) from £30.00 to £15.00. If you then go on to upgrade in the future, there will be a further £15 discount off the new software (you will, in effect, be getting your money back from the existing software). I hope this will make it more worthwhile for people to buy the existing journal software with a view to upgrading to the new software once it is available.
I still intend to support the existing I Ching Readings Journal in terms of problems and bug fixes for the foreseeable future. However, it is very unlikely that I will be developing it further.
For up to date information about the new software, you can subscribe to Hilary's Mailing list by following the link.

Following a suggestion, I have incorporated a new feature into the I Ching Readings Journal. This enables people to replace the Legge hexagram and line text displayed in the HEXAGRAM TEXT FORM (under the JUDGEMENT and IMAGE tabs) and in the LINE TEXT form.
You can download the Update Management software for 3.9 here:
To replace the Legge text:
1. Click the DATA UTILITIES button on the main READINGS SCREEN.
2. Click the EDIT HEXAGRAM AND LINE TEXT button when the pop up form opens.
3. This opens the new EDIT HEXAGRAM/LINE TEXT form.
4. To change the text, just delete the old, then type in the new.
Above: The new Edit Hexagram/Line form. Click to see the full size image.
Navigate to through different hexagrams by using the navigation buttons at the bottom left of the screen. To go directly to a particular hexagram, just type in the hexagram number in the box between the buttons (you will need to type over the bit where it says something like “1 of 64”).
Hope this helps
Just to let you know, I have improved the Change Pattern Search for the I Ching Reading's Journal. This is the search that allows users to bring up lists of records based on which lines are changing. In previous versions the software did not give people the option of specifying changing lines for a particular hexagram. This feature has now been added; so we can now, for example, search for all readings with, say, hexagram 28 and line 1,2 & 4 changing (rather than just searching for all readings for any hexagram with those lines changing). Hopefully this should make the Change Pattern Search more useful to more people.
To use the new feature:
1. Click the search button from the Main Readings Screen
2. Select the CHANGE PATTERN search tab
3. Tick the appropriate box(’s) to select the changing line(s)
4. Then select a hexagram from the new drop down box
5. Click the search button

Just to let you know there is a new update for the I Ching Readings Journal. Version 3.7 corrects a minor glitch in the software. You probably won’t notice any difference, but it is worth updating. The update can be downloaded by clicking the link below.
Hope this helps
NB - This notice affects people who originally downloaded versions 3.1 and earlier. People who have downloaded later version do not need to run this correction update.
Over the weekend I discovered a bug in my software that has now been corrected. It related to the display of Line Notes made by the user – in short, under certain unusual conditions, the wrong Note was being displayed for a particular line. This situation occurred when the user viewed a note for a particular line, and then went back to the main reading screen to select a different line, without first closing the original note. When the newly selected line form opened, it would then display the Notes for the previously viewed line. Whilst this did not affect how notes were stored (Notes were still being saved to the correct line), it is not something that should have happen. As such I have just completed a correction which can be downloaded by clicking the link below. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Please let me know if you require further help.
Just to let you know there is a new update for my Journal Software. With Version 3.6, there is a new tab included for each hexagram and line. Selecting the tab from the Hexagram or Line screen enables a user to see all the previous experience gained of that hexagram or line. Or in other words, a list of previous readings where that particular hexagram or line showed up. There is also an option of viewing the information as a full page report, and whether to view all hexagrams of context.
If you are interested in this update, it can be downloaded from here:
Just to let you know there is a new update for the I Ching Readings Journal. Version 3.5 includes a readings index which provides a full page list of all your readings. If you would like to download the update, please click the link below and run the file as usual.
http://www.dealing-with-data.net/journal/UpdateManagement_35.msi (for instructions on how to download and run the update file, please see this Update Procedure)
To use the new feature, just click the SEARCH button and you will notice the READING REF search tab (now called READINGS INDEX) looks slightly different. A new button has been added for viewing your READING’S INDEX. When you click it, a full page reading’s index will open. I hope you find it useful.
Just to let you know that there is new version of my software available. Version 3.4 has an extra search function enabling us to Search by Change Pattern.

If you are already using a earlier version of the I Ching Readings Journal, you can download the free Update Management Package from the link below:http://www.dealing-with-data.net/journal/UpdateManagement_34.msi
Once it is downloaded, please run the Update Manager and select the correct filename and path (these should be displayed automatically in the text boxes). Then click START and wait a few seconds for the update to complete. You should get an Update successful message once it is done. Please click this link for the full Update Procedure. If you have any problems or just need some advice, please contact me and I will be happy to help.
To use the new Search by Change Pattern function,
1. Click the SEARCH button on the main readings screen .
2. Click the CHANGE PATTERN tab.
3. Click whichever CHANGING LINE tick boxes you are interested in basing your search on.
4. Enter a date range if required (optional)
5. Click the SEARCH button.
NB you can also select whether you want to do an EXCLUSIVE or INCLUSIVE search. The former will only show readings with the changing line which have been specified, whereas the latter will show readings which include those specified.
I have also added some extra CLOSE buttons to make it easier to close the different tabs (instead of clicking the small x in the top corner of the screen).
As always, any feedback is much appreciated.
