Getting Started

There are two main stages involved in starting your I Ching reading journal. The first is to create a record for your READING. Each reading, of course, will have its own question. In addition to this you may also add notes for the background situation behind the reading.

The next stage involves ENTERING THE PRIMARY HEXAGRAM (with any changing lines) for your reading once you have generated this by your preferred method. The software will then calculate the Relating Hexagram, the Hexagrams of Context, the Steps of Change and the Patterns of Change automatically.

These two stages are explained next:

Create a new Reading

• 1. Click the ENTER NEW READING button at the top centre of the main READING’S SCREEN.

  2. When the small dialogue box opens, enter your consultation question, and click OK.

Above - This is where you enter your consultation question to create a new reading.

The record for your reading has now been created. You can now enter any background information about the situation that you are enquiring about. To do this just type directly into the background box in the lower half of the screen.

Enter the primary Hexagram

• 1. Click the ENTER HEXAGRAMS button on the right hand side of the READING’S SCREEN.

  2. When pop up form opens select the primary hexagram from the drop down list – or just type the hexagram number into the text box directly.

  3. Next click whichever lines are changing.

  4. Finally click the GENERATE HEXAGRAMS button.

This will then enter the primary hexagram into the top part of the main READING’S SCREEN as well as calculating the relating hexagram, the hexagrams of context, and patterns of change. To view the Relating Hexagram, click the tab for this above the main hexagram’s box. Do the same for the hexagrams of context etc.

You may at this stage record your initial THOUGHTS about the reading – ie your interpretation of what the hexagrams and lines mean in relation to your question. This can be edited or added to at any later stage. Just click the THOUGHTS tab in the lower half of the main READING’S SCREEN.
