Dali after five days

Of all the places we visited in China, we liked Dali the best.

We returned often, and once in Yunan, rarely went elsewhere.

My motto was "Why look for somewhere you don't like as much"

The following pictures were taken on two separate trips, both this year.

On the first trip, we took a three day trip around Lake Erhai,

one of the largest lakes in Yunan.

On the second trip, which will be added later,

we visited the home of one of my students,

and experienced true Chinese hospitality.

Trip 1 - Early May 2009

This is Ee, in the Bird's Nest guest house in Dali,

where we always stay,

sat astride an ancient Chinese motorbike

This is Chuchee in the guest house,

playing with the cat which was soon to mother 6 kittens

Another view of the private garden in The Bird's Nest guest house.

The son of one of our friends.

Affectionately nick-named Pooh Bear,

he accompanied us on the trip around the lake.

with his father, O and mother, Chang Fan

O is Thai, and his wife is Beijing Chinese -

they live among the Bai, the indigenous people of Dali.

These are the six people who went on the tour around the lake.
