WP - Ethical Dilemmas 1

Writing prompts help build the ability to respond to questions, and they help writers get their ideas down. Over the course of time, they build writing fluency and proficiency as well.

Please give serious consideration to the prompt, doing so will highlight connections in the texts we read. Please use all of the time provided -- keep writing even when you think you're out of ideas. Remember, writing is a thinking process; the more you write, the more you think! Although I do not assess daily writing responses for conventions, use them to practice your skills – try to write in complete sentences (avoid fragments, run-ons, and comma-splices) and develop other good habits (e.g., handwriting, capitalization, punctuation).

Ethical Dilemmas 1

Choose one of the ethical dilemmas below and freewrite your response. Write as much as possible; use all the time provided. Provide at least three points to support your position

1. Reb Saunder’s must approve of Danny’s friends. Should young adults be allowed to exercise their own discretion and make their own mistakes? Why or why not? Provide three reasons that support a parent’s decision to either allow or disallow their children to make friends with “undesirable” people.

2. Once Mr. Malter knew Danny was the son of Reb Saunders, should he have continued to give and recommend books for Danny behind Reb Saunders back? Why or why not? Provide three reasons to support your answer.

3. Should parents get to approve or disapprove of every last thing their teenage kids read (essentially practicing censorship) or are young adults mature enough that they should be allowed to choose their own reading in addition to assigned reading for school? Provide at least three reasons to support your answer.
