Look at the picture to the left. Use your handout on “Basic Sentence Part and Conjunction Definitions” to write sentences with each of the various grammatical structures. See the “Common Punctuation and Sentence Arrangement Patterns” table as a guideline. Please use subject matter from The Chosen to compose your complex sentences.
1. Write an independent clause of 3-5 words using an active verb.
2. Add an adverb.
3. Add a proper noun, capitalized.
4. Using a subordinate conjunction, write a related dependent clause of 4-6 words and attach it to the independent clause.
5. Invert the clause order. When the dependent clause comes first, we use a comma to separate it from the independent clause.
Model:
1. The men clap together.
2. Gently, the men clap together.
3. Gently, the Hasidic men clap together.
4. Gently, the Hasidic men clap together as the music begins.
5. As the music begins, the Hasidic men gently clap together.
