BUILDING SENTENCES: The Compound Sentence

Look at the picture below and follow the directions closely. Please use concepts from "Allegory of the Cave" as the subject matter for your compound sentence.

1. Using an active verb, compose an independent clause of 3 to 5 words. An independent clause requires a subject, a verb, and end sentence punctuation.

2. Add a proper noun, capitalized.

3. Add an adverb.

4. Compose a second independent clause of 3 to 5 words with an active verb.

5. Add a pronoun to the second sentence.

6. Add an adverb to the second sentence.

7. Join the two clauses using a comma and a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS) to create a compound sentence.

1. The prisoners escape the cave.

2. The prisoners Jaxx and Thorgrim escape the cave.
