Kilmington Area (Moderate) 3.5 miles

Tue 27 November - Afternoon walk (cars)

Leader: Linda M. Account by: Linda M.

6 (potential) walkers.

Photos by: Brian H...on the Recce earlier in November.

Tuesday 27th November was a very wet and windy day. It was also the last planned walk of 2018 for Honiton Walking Club. Despite the appalling weather some die hards made their way to the meeting point at 1pm. Huddled together half a dozen members decided the weather was just too bad and with some relief they all made their way home again!

Fortunately we are able to tell you and our members what they missed as we had a much nicer day on the recce a few weeks ago.

We parked at the Kilmington Village Hall and made our way to the Shute beacon with its lovely views of the Seaton coastline. Then shortly after we arrived at the impressive Shute Barton 15th century gatehouse. Through this gatehouse is one of the most important non-fortfied manor houses of the middle ages.

This walk also takes the walker right past Shute House with its Turkey oak tree thought to be over 350 years old with a span of 54m!

This is a throughly exhilarating walk offering several wonderful views of the East Devon countryside as well as some sea views and some truly lovely narrow lanes, woodland trails and bridleways.

Hopefully, weather permitting, Honiton Walking Club members will enjoy this walk in 2019!
