Account by Tomi D: We had a lovely varied walk and the weather was kind with black clouds blowing away from our area. The woodland areas were muddy after all the rain these past weeks and Terry detoured around a flooded path staying on lanes which made it slightly longer. We crossed Venn Ottery Common and stopped at the village church yard for drinks. Headed back to Newton Pop through more muddy pathways and orchards. There was a warning to look out for cows roaming freely in one of the woods and I had a portrait but I think Ian W scared him away ha! Terry's last walk as leader.
Max Elevation: 425 ft; Min Elevation: 90 ft; Ascent/Descent: 615 ft.

Account by: Ian M:
It did not rain during the walk but was overcast all the time and a cold northly wind, but it was a very good walk especially considering the very poor forecast. We just had the one 7 mile walk, of 17 members, as the ascent for the shorter walk would have been the same as the longer walk. Ian M led until half way when we joined the route the short walk would have taken and then Keith M took over.
We all went to the HillBrush factory for coffee before the walkers were taken to Kingston Deverill. The coach then went back to take the 8 people from HillBrush to Stourhead. Everybody thought the walk vey good and not too difficult. After the first half mile it was easy going.
We did not have long for lunch as this mid June day was a little cold for sitting too long. We therefore arrived back at the brush factory in plenty of time for tea. It was an excellent venue.

Honiton Walking Club members enjoyed a five mile walk in the Cotleigh area last week and were very fortunate with the weather. The forecast for the day was 10 hours of rain but luckily they only had light rain for a few minutes. The lovely walk took the walkers along leaf covered woodland beside a stream and across fields and lanes. Sturdy shoes were required when navigating some of the steep wooden ladder steps which were best done backwards.

Twenty-three members of the Honiton Walking Club enjoyed a sunny New Year's Day walk, sharing cars from Honiton to Kenton, then walking across the Powderham Estate to join the lane running alongside the River Exe. We had a short pause to look around the interesting Powderham Churchyard, then continued across the edge of the Deer Park back into Kenton. This was one of our shorter walks due to the limited daylight, but it was good to stretch our legs after Christmas and New Year festivities. [Text by Keith M]
