We thought we knew Sidmouth ...
... but the trees ...
.. plants ..
... and landscaping amazed us.
We found views ...
... a Victoria Cross ...
... more landscaping ...
... and autumn colours

.... but meant "up" at the end!

The wide track ...
... narrowed ....

Then a better one ...
.. and sunny and ...
heather blooming.
Up was steep ...
... but down gentler.

Walking through trees,
sunken lanes,
and uphill.
We read the signs,
crossed fields,
queued patiently,
admired the views,
and met the locals.
Although the walk was fully booked, many of the registered walkers decided that it would be unwise for them to walk in the heat. Those who took part took appropriate precautions, and the walk was mainly in the shade.

The car sharers joined those who drove directly to the start.
The shade was welcome ...
.. as were the chairs at Blackborough churchyard.
Nature even provided refreshements - sweet raspberries!

Along the River Otter ...
... looking down on Budleigh ...

Oh well, a little rain ...
... the bridge was OK ...
... the stile was slippy ...
... but the board walk was a board crawl!

we set out from Coteligh ...
... through the bluebells ...
... across fields ...
and conquering stiles.
The spectacular views over the valley were too much ...
... so we stopped for lunch to have a better look ...
... then continued our walk ...
... making sure the locals didn't follow us through the gate!

... is this the river Wolf? ...
... stop for lunch - can we see the second group yet? ...
... they have arrived - time for the first group to leave! ...
...you call this muddy? ....
... how convenient, a boot wash ...
