Background
The Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) contribute significantly to improving public's health in the broader context of primary care. It is a very important and vital part of healthy cities. Whilst it offers health promotion and rehabilitative services for the general public and patients in an ambulatory setting, its front-line services, mission and visions should match with the community's needs in a timely manner. Changes in disease prevalence, technological advances and population mobility will mean that the publics' needs are changing. The purpose of this satellite symposium is to illustrate how academic professionals may contribute to identify community needs by proper population-based research to inform services offered by the NGOs. On the other hand, the NGOs may also reflect the service gaps and share exemplary service models for evaluation by academic professionals. The symposium showcases some fruitful collaboration, and also provides an opportunity for sharing experience with international organizations.
