FNBA 2005 Offseason Changes

2005 FNBA Offseason Rule Changes

Playoff Transactions: Each team will only be able to acquire injury replacement players. There will be no regular add/drop transactions once the playoffs start.

Keeper Cap Increase: The keeper cap will increase from a maximum of $65 to $75 before the 2005-06 season.

Trading for players signed to Option Year Contracts: If Team A trades for a player signed to an option year contract by Team B, Team A has the power to sign that player to, at most, a two year contract extension in the offseason.

    • If signed to a one year extension, the player will receive an increase depending on their previous year’s salary:
        • Under $20 in salary, the player will receive a $3 raise. If over a $20 salary, the player will receive a $4 raise.
    • If signed to a two year extension, the contract will fall under the league’s normal guidelines for offseason contracts.

Penalties for releasing expensive players: There is a $3 penalty for each year remaining on a contract for breaking a guaranteed contract. For example, if a player is on a 4 year, guaranteed contract, and is released in the 2nd year of that contract, there would be a $9, one time penalty assessed at the following year's auction.

FUTURE RULE CHANGES:

New Contracts Setup

**guaranteed - 2 to 4 years in length**

    • $1-$20 = $1 raise per season
    • $21-$30 = $2 raise per season
    • $31-$40 = $3 raise per season
    • $41-$50 = $4 raise per season
    • $51 and over = $5 increase
    • Example: a $20 player would cost $21, $23, $25, $27 over 4 years (you need to make sure you do not go over your keeper cap in ANY of the years involved in this scenario)

**non-guaranteed - 2 to 4 years in length**

    • $1-$10 = $3 raise per season
    • $11-$20 = $4 raise per season
    • $21-$30 = $5 raise per season
    • $31-$40 = $6 raise per season
    • $41-$50 = $7 raise per season
    • $51 and over = $8 raise
    • Example: a $20 player would cost $24, $29, $34, $40 over 4 years
    • (you only need to worry about the 1st year when figuring out your keeper cap)

**option year - just one season**

    • You can sign a player for their current price to fit into your keeper budget for the upcoming season. Once the year is over, so is the players contract and he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
