Jane Highness Bio 10-19- 2026
I followed the logical steps of leaving my childhood interest in art and drawing and worked for Stanislaus California County government. I loved my career, but the interest in art never left. I told myself I would dive deeper into the art world when I retired. And so, I did.
My art journey was stimulated when I took a glass class at the Modesto Junior College 20 years ago, I am still hooked by the colors, textures and how sunlight brings out magic in the glass. I work in the copper foil method of stained glass. The choice of glass and colors are the key. The eye and mind blend them together like a quilt. I have been fortunate to do some custom pieces and get some long-term satisfaction with a piece in their home to be enjoyed for a long time.
My husband and I in 2006, went to Quartzsite for the Gem & Mineral show and at the RV park a lady was giving free classes in wire wrapping. Ever since I was a kid, I have always loved rocks. We moved to Lake Havasu in 2020. I met talented people who did lapidary work and I took classes and love turning a rough rock into a beautiful piece of jewelry. The locating, then slicing, trimming, polishing and finishing is all fulfilling. The earth creates marvelous specimens. I have the rocks and now the ability to produce cabochons to continue with wrapping or just enhancing a beautiful specimen. Now I have married my rocks and glass together.
My zest and enthusiasm for art, beauty, and whimsy keep me constantly on the hunt for ideas and opportunities to increase my skill. In the process I have uncovered a beautiful community of artists. The connections made with these artists are priceless. The Havasu Art Guild and The Havasu Gem & Mineral Society have been a wealth of inspiration, fun and creativity.
I welcome people who want to talk about their art, my art or just art in general. Makes living just a little more exciting.
