Kathy has always been interested in creative pursuits, including years spent doing photography and jewelry and lapidary design, and while those activities are still part of her life, she has spent the last 5 or 6 years since her retirement from the IT field focusing on learning to paint in oils.
This started with classes in drawing and painting at Mohave Community College, and went on to workshops with Western landscape artist Cody DeLong in Jerome, Arizona, and with Gretchen Lopez in Sedona. She also has learned from a collection of books on painting, as well as from many instructional DVD courses. One major contribution to her experience has been living in the Southwest, where she finds the skies and landscapes endlessly inspiring.
At the Havasu Art Guild’s major spring show in 2018, she received an Award of Merit for her painting of a stormy desert sunset, and her work has also been shown in the Spresser Gallery in the Lake Havasu City Visitors Bureau, at the Art Guild’s shows, and at the Burr Trail Outpost in the canyon country of southern Utah, where it is sold both as note cards and original paintings.
