Overview: Funding to purchase a variety of STEM materials to be used to enhance our current curriculum and activities in preschool. A major focus of our professional development so far this year has been looking at the Massachusetts State Standards and aligning them with our themes and activities. Science is an area that I found I needed to focus on adding to this year. The materials requested correspond with the science standards and will be incorporated into play based learning experiences. Some of the requested materials correspond to specific themes, such as outer space, weather, growing things, etc. Some other materials will be used to incorporate science concepts in our daily play and exploration, such as the magnetic materials, translucent manipulatives and magnifying glasses. Last year a light table was purchased and it has led to some great activities and investigations already this year. It particularly has helped to engage our students with disabilities and sensory needs. This will help make academic concepts more appealing and accessible to ALL of our youngest learners.
