2023-24 Grant Program

The Grant Program is designed to support curriculum enrichment as well as school resources. Teachers and staff are encouraged to apply for grants to fund enrichment programs, performances and other opportunities as well as to fund supplies, equipment, and other experiences which will have a direct and beneficial impact on the quality of education for students.  We are please to have been able to fund the following grants (totals rounded) so far during the 2023-24 school year...

This two-part annual grant provides seed money to be split between the HES classroom teachers for as needed start-up and classroom expenses. It additionally provides a fund to be used at the principal's discretion for need-based scholarships for student activities and materials throughout the year.


This grant funds 2 performances by the award-winning traveling theatre group TIGER for the Pre-K through 4th grade students. TIGER has visited HES annually for almost 18 years and performs musicals on topics surrounding self-esteem building, friendship issues, solving challenges, diversity, and other SEL-related experiences.


This grant provides funding for the 12th grade class to travel to the Huntington Theater to see the Boston production of the play FAT HAM, a 2022 Pulitzer Prize winner based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Before their trip, students will attend an educational pre-show seminar, and after the show stay for a formal post-show discussion. with the Theater Company educator, coming together across for a collective, immersive experience to enrich the English curriculum for all classes.

This grant helps to fund a field trip to the Worcester Art Museum for students enrolled in Ancient and Medieval History. The trip will feature a docent-led tour tailored to class content, time to explore the galleries, and a presentation on Ancient and Medieval arms and armor. The museum houses a collection of items from around the globe from the ancient and medieval periods and offers the opportunity for students to encounter tangible artifacts from the past, bringing these civilizations to life and augmenting the class curriculum. 


Decodable Readers are bright, fun and engaging texts that allow for literacy and phonics skill practice and development. This grant uses funding brought in specifically by the 2022 Book Fair to order six sets of Level 1 and Level 2 readers in order to provide Kindergarten and First Grade classroom teachers with book sets appropriate for small group instruction. Each level set has 15 titles, providing a total of 180 books for K-1 classrooms to share.


This grant provides quarterly lunches for the newly created TBHS Principal’s Cabinet.  This group consists of thirteen 9th to 12th graders, selected of 29 student applicants, who represent a range of interests and perspectives and who meet with the TBHS principal quarterly to discuss the state of the high school, to hear more about the principals plans and to help inform the principal about the student experience at Bromfield


Description: In this hands-on coding project for the 7th graders, groups of students will create a balloon, construct a support device and create code that navigates their balloon through a virtual Bromfield Thanksgiving Day Parade using green screen technology.  This grant provides craft materials for the project as well as 2 additional Ozobot robots to carry student balloons. These robots can be used by different aged students to code at age-appropriate levels with drawing or text based codes.


This grant funds a zoom concert with a popular YouTuber who does song parodies with ancient history lyrics offering an engaging way for students to learn and connect with history. 


This grant provides funding for the Bromfield School Parent Teacher Conference Scheduling software. The software allows parents to sign up for conferences from their homes and provides the teachers and school with an easy to read schedule


This grant uses proceeds from the 2022 PTO Book Fair to help update the nonfiction section of the library with an emphasis on material for younger students in grades PK through 3rd. Books purchased through this grant focus on a wide range of topics including animals, pets, science, sports, geography, coding, recreation and biography. This grant helps to offset costs for the 8th grade field trip to the Edward M. Kennedy institute where students will take part in a simulation emulating the senate.  This program, which aligns with numerous standards for the Civics unit, requires students to prepare in advance for their roles in the senate, complete pre-work and then roleplay as they learn about the system of checks and balances in live action.


This grant funds the purchase of a 16 x 46 foot scrim, a specialized type of fabric that is opaque when lit from the front and transparent when lit from behind, for use in the Cronin auditorium.  This item’s primary use will be for Drama Society productions but could also be used for musical performances and is expected to last for 5 - 10 years or longer.


This grant provides stress balls, featuring the new TBMS Bobcat Mascot, for students who participate in this year's Refresh Day.  Refresh day is an annual event that supports student healthy habits, mental wellness and stress relief.


This grant supports the 11th Grade English field trip to see the play, John Proctor is the Villain, a modern reimagining of the classic novel The Crucible.  This trip will compliment the curriculum and stimulate discussion as student delve into this literary classic with a modern day perspective. 


This grant funds the annual Discovery Museum Traveling Science Workshop, Physical Changes of Matter, for the 2nd grader classrooms.  The presentation, which complements the science curriculum and specifically the States of Matter unit, investigates the physical properties of solids, liquids, and gases. The workshop uses dry ice and liquid nitrogen to make learning the phase changes dramatic and fun as students observe a solid change directly to a gas, shatter flowers, and use a banana as a hammer. 


This grant helps to cover transportation costs for the high school ensembles as they travel to Western Massachusetts to take part in the Great East Festival. At this event students will perform, be adjudicated, and work with experts in hopes of earning top ratings as did the Choir (Platinum), Wind Ensemble (Gold) and Jazz Band (Gold) in 2023.


This grant provides 1300 pairs of solar eclipse glasses (purchased from the American Astronomical Society’s list of safe viewers) for the full district viewing of the April 8th solar eclipse. On this day a total eclipse will pass over the United States and with these glasses, weather permitting, TBMS, TBHS and HES students in Harvard will be able to view a 93.7% of total eclipse from the school grounds and experience this amazing once in a lifetime astronomical event as a community. This grant supplements funding for the annual 4th grade canoeing field trip to Bare Hill Pond where students will explore and learn about the Nashua River Watershed to enhance the science curriculum. 


This grant provides funding for refreshments for the Harvard District Art Show reception on May 2nd from 5:00 - 7:00. The event will showcase student art from grades PreK - 12 for parents, families and community members to view. 


The Business Partners of America is a nationwide organization that promotes and teaches students about business. This year 52 students went to the state competition, 42 qualified for a team or individual event and 35 plan to travel to Chicago to represent Bromfield at the national level. This grant provides need based financial support to ensure that all students who have qualified can travel to nationals and participate in this exciting contest.  Learn more about this event in the BPA Conference Brochure.


This grant helps to fund the 1st grade class trip to the Ecotarium to complement their Sky Watchers’ Science unit. This unit teaches students about the phases of the moon, the reason we have seasons, the concepts of rotation & revolution, and the order of the planets and their distance from the sun.  As part of their field trip they will experience a planetarium show and travel through space and time to learn about the solar system to the Orion Nebula. 


This grant provides celebratory and refreshing popsicles to HES students for their end of the year field day. 


This grant supports the senior athlete breakfast and slide show being held for the second year to congratulate and celebrate this year’s graduating student athletes, families and coaches. 


This grant provided funding for the end of year celebration for this year’s 8th grade class.  This whole day event celebrates the class of 2028 with a kick off breakfast, time to reflect, celebrate and sign yearbooks and an afternoon moving-up ceremony with families.
