Nathan "Nate" Lambert passed away on Sunday morning, December 8th at the Olivia White Hospice Home. He was born in Wimont, MN in 1931.
His father was a Presbyterian minister in small towns across the midwest where he met his future wife, Norma, in Lincoln Nebraska. They were married in 1951 and didn't want to be parted by the Korean draft so he enlisted in the Navy where he became an aerographer.
With many interesting duty stations, the most important being the weather central at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in 1955 and again in 1965, when they joined the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain club and with 3 of their children saw the island from the top of every mountain. He strove for perfection in his work and had the honor of giving a daily weather briefing for the Viet Nam bombing runs, to Admiral Sharp of CINCPACFLEET via closed circuit t.v. Retiring on Guam in 1971 as a Chief Warrant officer he left his resumes at Forest Service offices from California to Nebraska and was called by the Kaibab office in Williams, where he held a variety of jobs, ending up working on the forest service road maintenance.
Nathan was a very private and moral man and the woods, trails and mountains were his serenity. Emphysema over his last years took this away from him.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, son Larry (Ann) Lambert of Bullhead City, Cheryl Byars of Flagstaff, Karolee Lambert of Anthem, and Marianne Lambert of Flagstaff, sixteen grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons-in-law Steve Garibay and Bobby Byars, and granddaughter Colette Garibay.
There will be a military graveside service at the Citizens' Cemetery in Flagstaff at 2:00 on Monday, Dec. 16th•
Granddaughter 1st. Class Petty Officer Jessica Lambert had a flag raised in Nathan's honor on Monday morning at her Virginia Beach, Va. Navy base. It will be sent overnight to Flagstaff for his graveside service.
