John Hart is listed as a wheelwright in his land petitions. His son James, was also a wheelwright who moved from South Fredericksburgh to Adolphustown. Two of his children later settled in Dresden, Kent Co, circa 1890.
Please be aware that there are TWO John/Jonathan Hart's. Both being in Fredericksburgh at the same time. One being on the UEL list, was promoted to Corporal. He settled in Northumberland Co. John Hart of Fredericksburgh made several petitions wishing to be added to the UE list.
From what I have gathered, I strongly feel that Charles Barnhart Hart is the son of the above couple. My supporting theory being that he was named after his uncle, Charles Barnhart who married Katrina Forshee 16 Feb 1789 in Fredericksburgh (an older sister to Jannetje). No proof however, but Darius Hart is listed as a son in various records submitted by researchers.
With regards to proof of Jannetje's maiden name, a recent discovery of a marriage of a Jane Hart (her third marriage - bless her) revealed parents as John Hart and Jane Forshee. Upper Canada Land Records & Minutes of the Mecklenburg District show John Hart #73 (5 Feb 1793) and John Forshe [sic] #74 wishing to become settlers in this Province (Ontario), each requesting 200 Acres - this was granted. To me, this suggests a bond between the families. Furthermore, I just made a recent discovery - a Charity Hart married 17 Jan 1832 the same day as Charles B. Hart. Could this be his sister? Was she named after her maternal aunt? Thus another unknown child of John Hart & Jannetje Forshee. A Charity Forshee married Jacob Post 21 Aug 1804 in Fredericksburgh. Also, Jacobus Forshee married 3 July 1798 showing Bernard Forshee and Charles Barnhart as witnesses. These Forshee names were discovered while researching at the NY library this summer as one family (I transcribed all the Forshee baptisms as recorded in NJ back several generations). You must admit the evidence supports a strong case.
