How to get there:
From Monroe Avenue (Route 31) and Clover Street (Route 65) drive south on Clover for 4.7 miles. Park is on the left with a small parking lot for about 12 cars.
Description:
A small preserve which offers a pleasant walk very suitable for young children. The path begins on wood chips and leads immediately to a trail sign and a commemorative plaque for Mr. Gordon. Continuing on, you enter a beautifully canopied country lane with open fields on either side of the hedgerows. The path then enters a more wooded area and winds up a small hill on a gravel road. At the top of the hill, the road narrows to a trail, down to a marshy area and up over a ridge to the observation platform, which includes a sitting bench overlooking the pond. Continuing on, the trail continues the return to the parking lot through a stand of pine trees and then comes to a large open filed. The remainder of the country lane offers the option of eliminating the hill portion of the walk completely. Many local birds such as chickadees, catbirds, towhees, bluejays, Canadian geese, cardinals, flickers, blackbirds and the like may be seen here. Tracks of animals such as deer, opossum, red and gray squirrels and rabbits are easily seen in winter. Perhaps due to its modest size and lack of picnic shelters, Isaac Gordon is lightly used and often offers a walker complete solitude. On the negative side, it must be noted that the nearby NY State Thruway generates intrusive road noise. Overall, the park offers a lightly used area for walks and nature study.
