Anger Management programs focus on teaching participants how to manage their anger. Participants are taught cognitive behavioural tools to change their "Violence Cycle" into a "Self Management Cycle". These programs have proven to be effective in reducing recidivism. I have experience in delivering anger management programs in various group settings, and provide one-to-one support to individuals taking anger management programs.
Many individuals dealing with anger issues are interested in doing more than manage their anger and want to evolve to a place where they do not become so angry. They may, for instance, understand intellectually that becoming angry does them no good but find it impossible to use this insight to handle their anger.
Anger can be understood very differently using response-based ideas. This requires a fundamental adjustment to traditional theory and practice. For instance, the concept of response-based and effect-based language can be used to understand a person's orientation to their responses. Zones of proximal development can be employed to develop alternative understandings of their reality.
My program called "Anger Management and Beyond" expands the traditional focus of anger management to manage an anger situation, to include the potential of evolving to a place where an individual's experience of anger changes.
The Anger Management and Beyond program has three focus areas:
I: Crisis Management and Skill Development
II: Contextual Understanding and Prevention
III: Resolving and Healing
