WRITE A LETTER

What is the aim of this task?

You are going to work on the war correspondence during WW1. Firstly, you will learn about the different types of letters depending on their style and purpose. You will also learn about the differences in vocabulary and layout. Secondly, you will read out genuine letters sent by real soldiers and soldiers’ relative

s. Finally, you will have to write your own letters as if you were soldiers, their relatives or even their girlfriends. 

Task 1 Open the links and read the various types of letters. Try to find differences among them.

Each one of you is going to read out an extract of different letters written by soldiers from the trenches in WW1. Try to give the right intonation and pronounce the words properly. 

Task 3

Now, you will have to plan your own letter as follows:

 1) First of all, decide how you are going to open and end the letter.

 2) Then, think of the ideas you want to write about and sketch them briefly. 

 3) Next, organize your ideas into paragraphs.

 4) After that, write a rough version of the letter and check on the grammar, syntax and spelling.

 5) Finally, write a neat version of the letter.
